Audible books not playing on Apple Watch, even though iPhone and Apple watch have synced.

I'm sorry but how is this answer recommended by Apple?

The Audible app is complete garbage, regardless of how many times one uninstalls and installs the apps.

Amazon and Apple should be ashamed for releasing products that just don't work reliably (or at all), and then not never addressing customer issues.

This worked for me! And it makes sense considering the previous post about the problem being specific to large books. The one I was trying for days to get working was 16 hours. I deleted from the watch and iPhone. Changed the setting to multipart and re-downloaded it to the phone. I got 2 parts, and synced to the watch one at a time. It took awhile to even show up on the watch after the phone said it was complete, but it finally did and plays perfectly. I can't thank you enough for taking the time to post this solution

So far this is the only solution that worked for me. Turning off Bluetooth on the iPhone and then connecting my AirPods to the Audible app on the watch. The whole book is now displayed on the watch. After a few minutes to make sure I’m able to listen from Audible app, I turned the Bluetooth on again on the iPhone. Now it is still working. Thanks Momlas!

Not that this is a great solution, but I find that it takes two times of syncing a book to my series 3 watch before it will actually play (I sync it once then delete it and sync it again). It has worked every time.

Twice ( the first just by chance) I have had success doing these simple steps :

1- Sync the book with the watch on the charger

2- WHILE THE WATCH IS STILL ON THE CHARGER, Open The Audible App on the watch.

3- pair earbuds

4- press play!

I tried EVERYTHING discussed but nothing helped. I had a multi-part audio book synced (around 7 hours) but was not able to play it.

Finally, you trick " WHILE THE WATCH IS STILL ON THE CHARGER, Open The Audible App on the watch and play" solved the issue.

Also without the watch now being on the charger I can perfectly play the same book and it seems, that other books are also now playing fine.

I am having the same issue. Just got my watch yesterday, which the main selling point for me was the fact that I heard you could listen to audible through the watch. Imagine my frustration when I am able to get a book on the watch, but it won’t play! The controls are completely unresponsive. I’ve tried all the things mentioned and nothing seems to be working. I’m beside myself. Is it a problem with the app itself?

I had this same problem and one of the suggestions here fixed it in my case, I deleted the book from the watch, turned off Bluetooth on my phone then transferred the book again with Bluetooth off, and while the watch was still on the charger I started playing the book. Now it seems to play fine the normal way.

Thank you. The Bluetooth trick helped when for whatever reason the sync wasn’t showing the book in the watch. I also killed the app in the watch before trying to async again, not sure if that was necessary.

Same problem. Successfully downloaded from Audible onto new AppleWstch. Tap play icon—nothing happens! Please help! Been on phone with Audible support—still is due.

I have the same problem, couldn't play the audible books from the app. Should we report this with Amazon than apple? Hope #appplewatch team would take a look at this
