external monitors for macbook pro 2019

Hi everybody.

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro 2019 15 inch.

I'm now looking for a monitor for business purposes.

Logic Pro X will be the most visual application I will be using.

I'm thinking 4K if possible but not necessary.

Do I need a Thunderbolt 3 monitor or will a USB-C work fine.

Any advise will be GREATLY appreciated.

Not exactly. The display does not have to specifically thunderbolt 3 support unless you are trying to use something like the LG display which has built in USB C ports and can power the Mac as well. If you are using one of the Dell monitors you just need to purchase a USB C to HDMI/Display Port cable off Amazon and you should be good.

Also, I gave the wrong recommendation for the 32 inch Dell display. If you want the 32inch you want to get the one without the built in USB C due to the fact that it is not 100% guaranteed to work with Mac and macOS.

Cable Recommendations For The Dell Displays:

Cable Matters USB C to HDMI Cable (USB-C to HDMI Cable) Supporting 4K 60Hz in Black 6 Feet - Thunderbolt 3 Port Compatible

Cable Matters USB C to DisplayPort Cable (USB-C to DisplayPort Cable, USB C to DP Cable) Supporting 4K 60Hz in Black 6 Feet - Thunderbolt 3 Port Compatible

Hello!

I have three recommendations based on size. Some of which have direct USB C to USB C connections while others require a USB C to HDMI/DisplayPort or similar adapter cable which can be easily found on Amazon.

The first recommendation is the LG Ultrafine 4K Display. This was developed hand in hand with Apple and features a direct USB C to USB C connection that charges your computer while connected. It is also is deeply integrated with the macOS Software which allows you to control brightness and other settings from the display settings on your Mac. Check it out below:

LG UltraFine 4k Display: https://www.apple.com/shop/product/HMUA2VC/A/lg-ultrafine-4k-display?fnode=e87b43f7877cf6b66163061616ab096eb0f0df0f7f27a382d160eea5ae6de9e8821884885648c1436edd40667a55615151b9dcb9823f3a79a4d6adc607b71d9348bb63acdbb4020d591e480df2b9ce145fd9100b767c4b093018529df396b9a7

The other recommendations are dell monitors. The are both similar in that they are 4K displays and have similar if not the same color profiles. The big difference between them is size. (24inch or 32inch). In general, Dell makes great displays. I currently use the Dell 24 Ultra HD 4K display. You can search their site if you are looking for different sizes.

All of these monitors feature built in USB C hubs. The Dell displays feature the ability for multiple inputs and some audio output options.

(Honestly, if you have the budget I would go with the LG UltraFine. Check out the details page at the above. The reason why this is nice is due to the fact that it has the built in data hub and charging capabilities for your Mac. If you are just using this monitor with an extra docking station or hub it will be perfect. If you are thinking about using some type of external hub for further connectivity I can give other recommendations...) (My personal set up is with the Dell 24 inch and a USB C hub from StarTech)
