Duration of photo keeps changing

Hello

I have the default picture length set to 4 seconds and the transition at 2 seconds. If I add a new photo it sets the Duration at 4 seconds. If I add a Transition in front of the photo, iMovie changes the Duration of the photo before and after. If I try and change the photo Duration to 4 seconds it makes it 3. The only way I can get the Duration to 4 seconds is to type in 5, then it makes it 4. Very frustrating!!

How can I get the Duration to stay set.

In your case: 3 = 4 - 2/2.

Transition "eat" one half its duration time both from left clip and from right one. If you insert Cross Dissolve between two clips your movie overall time will not be changed. Transition duration time don't belong to left or right clip. Imagine transition as a clip between two another clips.

Thanks for that.

It is a bad design feature of the software. Transition should to affect the display length.

I tried setting the default Duration to 6 seconds but a transition on either side still knocked it back to 3 seconds.

I'll just have to keep adjusting the Duration.

Set the default to 7 seconds and it works as required!!
