iPhone SE 2020 Home Button

I have just upgraded from the iPhone 5s (not by choice but I wanted the Apple 5 Watch!). However, upon setting it up, I’ve noticed that when pressing the home button, it feels like the button presses into the phone and there’s almost movement in the phone rather than just the button with a tiny quiet click. It’s hard to explain but with my old phone, the button presses in silently with no other movement. I’m trying to work out of there is a fault or if it’s just because the SE is so much thinner than my old phone? Thanks!!

The iPhone SE like the iPhone 7, 7 Plus, 8 and 8 Plus

no longer uses a physical home button; it instead uses a touch-sensitive button with haptic feedback via Apple Taptic Engine. The button is also pressure-sensitive.

See Settings > General > Home Button > here

This is normal behavior. Since the iPhone 7 (2016), the home button is no longer a mechanical button. When you turn your phone off, you will see that the button isn't press-able at all. It's a solid state button, any movement is simulated by the taptic engine (vibration motor) that lays underneath.

Sucks, doesn't it? I returned my first SE 2020 thinking it was a POS that wasn't assembled properly. Just got a new phone last night. Was at the store past closing, get home and realize I have the same issue - another POS. I don't know how a person "gets used to this" as it drives me crazy. Maybe we just need to voice activate so we don't have to touch the home button.

Shame on Apple for releasing junk!!!

You can set the home button haptic vibration to level 1, 2 or 3 by going to Settings > General > Home Button and choosing one of the options. It lets you test them to see which one you like. I really think, though, that if you give it a chance it won't bother you after the first week or so, and you'll hardly even notice it. Level 1 is pretty unobtrusive, although the variation between levels is not much.
