iPhone call via Mac; recipient can't hear me.

I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016) running Catalina 10.15.4 (19E287) and an iPhone SE 2020 running iOS 13.4.1.

I'm trying to direct an outgoing phone call through my Mac, but it's not working correctly.

I dial the number from my iPhone, and as soon as it starts to ring, I switch the iPhone to use the Mac. At that point, I can hear the ringing tone (and then the person answering) through the Mac just fine.

But they can't hear me. I've tried this with two different people and get the same results.

If I switch back to photo audio, we can hear each other through the iPhone.

Does anyone have any ideas why this isn't working as it should, please?

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! I understand from the information you provided that your callers are unable to hear you when you take calls on your Mac; I'd like to help.

Thank you.

Just to verify, you're using the steps found in this article:

Make and receive calls on your Mac, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Yes - I've double-checked and am definitely following those steps.

If you're using these steps, and you meet all these requirements, let's focus on the microphone of your Mac. Do you have any other issues with your microphone? Have you tried taking calls on your Mac with connected EarPods or any headset with headphone and a microphone?

OK; same issue whether I connect EarPods; the person I'm calling can't hear me either way; but I can hear them.

I opened TextEdit and dictated a sentence and it worked fine so the internet microphone and EarPods must be working OK.

Testing is issue in another user account can help determine if this may be user or account related settings causing this issue.

Not tested with another account yet; I'll try this shortly and report back.

It's a new iPhone SE 2020; its seems unlikely to be a fault with that as calls work fine just using them.

Testing is issue in another user account can help determine if this may be user or account related settings causing this issue. Here's how you can create a new user for testing:
