How to boost Bluetooth signal on MacMini

I have a MacMini in an electronics cabinet with a bunch of other A/V gear. The Bluetooth connection to its keyboard and mouse is terrible. I've gone through the shift-option Bluetooth menu/Debug and reset everything and its not helping. Anyone know of a good Bluetooth signal booster? I'm only sitting about 15' away from the computer whilst trying to control the keyboard and mouse....

Put a Bluetooth receiver on the end of a USB extension cable and run that outside of the cabinet.
