Importing Photos to a MacBook Air

Cannot get photos to import.. Mac is running version 10.15.2 Catalina From iPhone 7 IOS 10. I can see the photos when it connects.. but only a few imported the first time... Now won't do any... I saw something about resetting iCloud (which was off) location settings etc.. but that didn't help. I saw something about turning off iCloud Drive .. but not sure how to... Going to see if I can figure it.. but... any help will be appreciated. Thanks

So you're running Photos, not iPhoto. I'll ask this be moved to the correct forum for the best help.

Were you looking to have the photos sync from your phone (iCloud Photo Library) wirelessly or looking to plug your phone into your Mac and move them with a cable?
