MacBook Air cpu

I hope this isn’t a dumb question. I’m wanting to stay under $1000 and never had a MacBook before. I want the air and noticed that the previous model has an i5 but the newer model has an i3. I’m not a huge computer guy so I only know basics. However I know that an i5 is better. So what’s the difference in the latest model and the previous? Thanks !

Several reviews I've seen say that the 10th generation i3 in the 2020 MacBook Air is faster than the i5 in the previous model -- but there also seems to be a consensus that spending the extra $100 to upgrade to the i5 is the best $100 you can spend to upgrade. That will put you at $1099. Over what you want to spend. For the kinds of things I do which are pretty basic, the i3 would be fine.

The following is one of the reviews that has quite a bit of detail about the processor choices: https://www.howtogeek.com/666121/should-you-buy-the-2020-macbook-air/

Note that to get to the $1099 price, first click the "Select" button on the $999 model in the following link and then select the i5 processor on the next screen. https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-mac/macbook-air
