Word issue on new Macbook Pro

When I try to open or create a word document old or new on my new Macbook Pro it says there is a Microsoft Error Reporting "There was a problem with Microsoft Word and your recent work might be lost. We apologise for the incovenience". Apple support and Microsoft are unable to suggest what to do after days on the phone - both say its the other's issue. I have reinstalled Office 2016, and 2019 multiple times, everything else works, just not Word.

I think there is something wrong with the authorities, but am not a tec head. Suggestions would be appreciated.

There are a number of reports of that on the Microsoft forum, several of them solved and and not seeming to be caused by the same reason. You may want to check that forum to see if there is anything that will help. Here are links to the first 3 I found but I think there are others:
