'MESSAGES" on my MacBook AIr doesn't have all of my contacts

I want to use the Messages text message feature but when I type in a contact it cannot find it. I know the contact is in my icloud and my iphone. Why isn't it on Messages? Please help. Thank you.

Hello JonAlexandra,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I understand that contacts are not appearing in search on Messages. I'll do what I can to help.

Here are some suggestions:

  • Try starting a thread from the Contacts app. Also make sure if you do use iCloud for contacts, that it is enabled in System Preferences: Set up and use iCloud Contacts
  • Restart your Mac from the Apple () menu then Restart.

Thanks.
