How can I sync a non Apple Music (aka old school hard copy MP3) library from my iPhone to my new Macbook?

On iTunes (or the new 'Music' app I should say), the songs show up in my library but they are greyed out and the iCloud symbol is a faded dotted blue line. Only the songs which I have paid for over the years from the iTunes store are playable, whereas all my alternatively-sourced music that has not been purchased from apple is greyed out. On my iPhone however they work fine and I can play the whole library. I'd like to know how to un-grey them and sync my whole library from my iPhone to my Mac. I have the latest MacOS Catalina and iOS 13.4.1 and I have 'Sync iCloud Library' turned on on both my Mac and iPhone.

Any help greatly appreciated as this is quite frustrating,

Kind Regards

Hey there, and welcome to Apple Support Communities, Barney!

From my understanding, you have a few songs that you’re unable to play on your Mac, but they’re playable on your iPhone. I’d be happy to help!

Using the cloud status icons, it looks like these songs are in the process of being matched, or have been added from another device and can't be matched. To include music which is not part of the Apple Music library, you would need to upload the song from the computer where the original audio file is stored. You can read more about this under, "A dotted-line cloud," from this article: Identify cloud status icons in your music library on your Mac or PC - Apple Support

Since you mentioned that these are MP3’s, you’d want to download the MP3’s on your Mac directly (from the original source). These files can then be uploaded to the Cloud Music Library.

I hope that helps, and have a great day!
