I am trying to re-install macOS and get the error message 'the target volume is part of an incomplete system and cannot be installed to'

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today reinstalling macOS. As I understand, you are receiving the message "the target volume is part of an incomplete system and cannot be installed to".


Did you erase the hard drive in recovery? Check out: How to erase a disk for Mac. You may have only erased a volume which could have triggered this message.
