New Apple Watch audio and haptic alert when losing Bluetooth connection to iPhone

I have a Series 4 Watch paired with an iPhone 11. Whenever the watch goes out of Bluetooth range from the phone I have been getting the usual red icon at the top of the watch face. Starting about three days ago I have also been getting an audio (two-tone descending) and haptic alert when the Bluetooth connection is lost. I find nothing on the Apple website, or anywhere else, describing this. Two questions:

  1. Is anyone else hearing and feeling this alert when losing Bluetooth connectivity?
  2. How do I turn it off? I often leave the phone on its charger when I'm in the house and moving around in the house (which we're all doing a lot of these days) I frequently lose and then regain Bluetooth connectivity. The audio and haptic alerts get annoying real fast and, while I can see that they could be useful for some, I'd like to silence them.

Hello 51Alan,

I see that you're having an issue with your Apple Watch when not connected to Bluetooth. I can understand your concern, and I'd be happy to help.

Let's start by having you restart your Apple Watch and test to see if the issue remains. If the issue remains, unpair your watch from your iPhone, pair them back together and test once more.

How to restart your Apple Watch

Unpair and erase your Apple Watch

If the issue remains after trying these steps, respond back with some more details. Which version of software are you using on both devices? Have you made any recent changes to your Apple Watch? Added any new apps?

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Thanks! Restarting the watch removed the alert.

It's interesting. When I searched the web for a solution to this development I found a number of posts from people who wanted just this feature -- an audio and/or haptic alert when the watch lost its Bluetooth connection to the iPhone. It apparently isn't available through the watchOS, but may be through a third-party app. However, that was just what my Watch started doing all on its own. Restarting the Watch made the alert go away (which, in my case, was the desired outcome).
