not only one smtp server - please

I use apple mail (12.4 unter OSX 14.6) with iCloud - works fine - but i also use another provider who changes the service and only smtp-servers are supported starting next week. With one email from them it works fine - but i have 3 little companies and want to use my accounts (also the outgoing) the way i want...

Trying to use the other two i need mail is telling me: A SMTP account already exists. Only a singe SMTP account is allowed to be saved.

Noooooo - i want to use 3 (at least)...

So what could i do - any ideas, suggestions?

Hello, thanks for the tip using another administrator-account on the mac - but you i tried to avoid that as long as possible... with all the settings and passwords (i use long and complex ones ;) there is too much room for errors... anyway:

After reaching for Apple-Support i learned it should work - and that sometimes there might be some kind of a hiccup with the accounts in mail... so i should try deleting and afterwards adding the accounts again with all the settings - and i should start by deleting all of them (except the one from apple) -

so i deleted the three accounts... setting up the first one worked of course (as usual) - but i had the same problem with the second one again... so i tried to use the second one as a smtp-account too but not with the settings from my provider but but with "set connection-settings automatically" (or so, i do use the US language-setting) - and that worked... - i had two mail-accounts working with smtp.

Setting up the third smtp-account was more work - i did 3 times exactly the same (deleting and adding the account) - and with the smtp-account and the automatic setting the third account works too now... but i did exactly that for 3 times... but now it works!

Somebody at Apple should have a look into these settings - there is something wrong...

Hello simplex7,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! I understand from the information you provided that you’re having issues adding SMTP servers; I'd like to help.

So we have a better understanding of what's happening, are you trying to add multiple accounts, each with a SMTP server, or are you trying to add multiple SMTP servers on a single account?

You can only have one SMTP server per account. If this is what you're trying to set up, let's have you test this in another user account can help determine if this may be user or account related settings causing this issue. Here's how you can create a new user for testing:

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

Keep us posted with the results.

Best Regards.

Just to clear it up a bit:

I have a iCloud-Account: no problem.

I also have 3 other accounts at a provider called strato.de where i have 3 websites, 3 blogs and 3 email-accounts for 3 companies. I want to keep them separate - also with my emails...

The hostname is of course 3 times the same (smtp.strato.de), account and passwords are different. Only one of these 3 can be set to smtp.strato.de with port 465 and TLS/SSL, authenticate: password.

Setting one of them individually works fine (no matter witch one) - setting a second (no matter wich one) i get this message from mail: A SMTP account already exists. Only a singe SMTP account is allowed to be saved.

So this seems to be planned behavior from apple - right?

So it looks to me as if only one smtp account is allowed (by apple - not anybody else) - and this is a problem, because starting on may 5. the host (Strato) will not allow unsafe accounts anymore...

Greetings from the alps

So - since yesterday i can only send messages from one account because apple / mail does not allow me to save several smtp-accounts.

Can anybody give me a reason for that behaviour or why apple does not allow this? I don't get it. Because i cannot find anything strange or abnormal in what i am asking for or what i expect.

Do i have to use some other mail-app?
