Can I Change The Default Song Order In Playlists?

Any time I opened iTunes on my MacBook, I liked the playlists to sort the tracks as Album By Artist - that way when it syncs to the cloud, the tracks appear Album By Artist on my iPhone. Since Apple shifted from iTunes to the Music app, I guess they changed an algorithm because any time I open the Music app on my MacBook, the desired sorting resets to the default view as Album (which puts the tracks in order alphabetically by Album title instead of the desired alphabetically Album by Artist).

Is there a way to make this change stick so that I don't have to update each playlist any time I open the Music app? In order to make it change on my iPhone after syncing thru the cloud, I have to duplicate the playlists, view as Album By Artist and then delete the original playlist. Seems tedious...

Sort a playlist into the order that you want for it, then right-click the name of the playlist in the sidebar and click Copy to Play Order. Now sort the list on Play Order using the View > View as Playlist, or in the Songs view sort on the left-most column of numbers.
