Recently, very often when I type an iMessage the first letter is not automatically capitalized. Currently I'm using Gboard, but it doesn't seem to matter what keyboard I use. In iOS settings, I have auto-capitalization on, auto-correction off, but changing them didn't help. For Gboard settings, I have both on, but changing them didn't seem to help either.

did you already go to settings>general>reset>and reset the keyboard?

Thank you. I have an iPhone 8 Plus, iOS 13.3.1, and there is a settings>general>reset>Reset Keyboard Dictionary (not reset Keyboard) and I tried that but it didn't work. If you have other recommendations I'd like to hear them.
Should I try this even though my iPhone is not frozen or black-screened?

When I went through the procedure (up volume, down volume, hold side button), my phone turned off. When I turned it back on, I still had the problem.
did you try seeing if there was an update available and force rebooting the device? Force reboot device - Apple Support
