Apple watch storage full

Hello,

For the past 3 month I'm having this issue where my watch 3 series has no space left. This did not happen over time, it happen one day, pretty random.

Checking the storage, the largest app is Nike Run, 22 mb.

No music, no podcasts, no photos on the watch.

I did a hard reset a few times, nothing helped.

I believe the problem is something on my iphone, but I'm trying to avoid a reset.

Any ideas?

Apple Watch Series 3, watchOS 6

I think I may have done it!!! Finally! Some of you know how far I have already been to fix it, but I have gotten further this time!

Here goes I’ll talk through it as best I can....

1.) reset watch completely via watch, erasing all data and settings

2.) I decided to sign out of iCloud on my phone (yes a lot of my information was removed from my phone but still available on the cloud),

3.) link watch to iPhone again whilst not using iCloud, from this I was able to link watch to iPhone and update to latest software without the error message “not enough capacity” setting up as new

the watch now is not linked to iCloud

4.) I have waited for 24 hours before resigning in to iCloud on iPhone, purely because I didn’t get time to beforehand, but sign back into icloud (can’t imagine it’s make much difference doing it after 5 hours rather than 24)

5.) watch will then ask to log into iCloud - I pressed cancel for this...... what really does the iwatch need from the cloud?

messages come through, activity is still tracked, Facebook comes through etc etc

the iCloud is definitely the issue - believe it to be shortcuts so if someone wants to link back to cloud ensure shortcuts are turned off on cloud storage - this may work but I’m happy with how far I’ve got and a working watch with 3.7 gb capacity still available

if anyone has any questions about specific things being accessed I can try on my watch beforehand if you’d like

you’re welcome 😇

I've been having the same issue as well with the Apple Watch Series 3 since June (and this is a replacement watch).

I'm running Watch OS 6.2.8 on an iPhone X with iOS 13.7.

Constantly getting "Storage Full" message - at least weekly now (when it was more every 3 weeks-monthly prior).

I have no music, a total of 5 photos, and 2 apps typically installed on my watch. The apps are MapMyFitness & Duo Authentication App.

I would get quite a few emails & texts, I updated my settings on the watch to not receive those notifications on there.

Still seeing "Storage Full" - I'm at my wits end...not sure if it's the watch or the OS causing these issues.

Sorry, it's not much of an update, per se...but hopefully, my information will help try & pinpoint a possible cause (?)

Thanks to everyone for your input...

Say, I have not been able to upgrade my watch to WatchOS7.

I’ve tried resetting & re-pairing it twice. I’ve erased much of the old or duplicate data from my Health app and really only keep 2 apps & 5 photos on my watch (though it says there’s 16 on there, have no clue where they would be). No email, minimal messaging, etc

I still get the “not enough memory” error to complete the upgrade. 🤷‍♀️

Upgrade to the Series 6? What would you do? Thanks much... 🙂

After unpairing and repairing to update, I got the Sotrage Full message again on OS 7 and had to fully reset. I’m curious to see if anyone who may get an SE or 6 will continue to have an issue after it persisting with their 3. I may be that person if it keeps up, ha! So so frustrated.  I really want to know what percentage of 3s this is affecting.

I received my SE today, and after initial pairing I had 25gb of available storage, with in 30 minutes that gradually decreased to 19. My usage was still incorrect, saying that I had used 6.6gb, which is impossible. I have updated to WatchOS 7.0.1 and am currently updating to IOS 14.0.1. I will repair after that and we shall see.... Doesn't look good though. If anyone has a different outcome, please post.

Just saw this article but no specific mention of the storage issue.

I was waiting for them to say everything needs to be fully wiped for our fix. Interesting they’re saying both can be restored from backup, though. Not sure I have it in me to reset my phone, but if this is their solution for all of these issues I can’t image they’ll have an easier one for our storage fix.

Just wanted to comment on this too because I have been experiencing the exact same thing and have contacted Apple about 5 times now and nothing has worked. Every time I talk to them they are so confident that they've fixed it and then an hour later my apple watch is full again. It is the most frustrating thing ever. My apple store is currently closed too because of covid so I have an appointment with best buy on Thursday to see if they can fix it but idk how confident I am feeling about this. I will keep you all updated if anything works but it just sucks I can't even use my apple watch anymore :/

I totally understand where you’re coming from, maya. After two weeks twice reset/re-pairing of my Apple Watch, I’ve pretty much given on it entirely. Sadly I t’s sitting on its charger waiting to be traded in on my upgrade to the Series 6 watch. I’m expecting that in the next couple of weeks or so. 😢

Hoping that will solve the problem all together. 👍

WOW you have definitely done the most! Definitely keep us updated but this whole thing is crazy. How can they not take accountability when us users have done nothing to affect it? I too pay for extra iCloud storage and extra storage on my IPhone so it makes no sense that that would affect our watches. But thank you for this info!! I really enjoy seeing everyone else’s comments and know that I’m not alone 😅

Wow is right! Thanks so much for sharing. It’s crazy they have acknowledged the issue as a bug and yet are still making people go through the motions with no actual solution. I still can’t believe full resets and new watches aren’t a fix. They need their cloud engineers to kick it into high gear for a fix before we all give up and trade in our watches.
