Apple watch storage full

Hello,

For the past 3 month I'm having this issue where my watch 3 series has no space left. This did not happen over time, it happen one day, pretty random.

Checking the storage, the largest app is Nike Run, 22 mb.

No music, no podcasts, no photos on the watch.

I did a hard reset a few times, nothing helped.

I believe the problem is something on my iphone, but I'm trying to avoid a reset.

Any ideas?

Apple Watch Series 3, watchOS 6

I think I may have done it!!! Finally! Some of you know how far I have already been to fix it, but I have gotten further this time!

Here goes I’ll talk through it as best I can....

1.) reset watch completely via watch, erasing all data and settings

2.) I decided to sign out of iCloud on my phone (yes a lot of my information was removed from my phone but still available on the cloud),

3.) link watch to iPhone again whilst not using iCloud, from this I was able to link watch to iPhone and update to latest software without the error message “not enough capacity” setting up as new

the watch now is not linked to iCloud

4.) I have waited for 24 hours before resigning in to iCloud on iPhone, purely because I didn’t get time to beforehand, but sign back into icloud (can’t imagine it’s make much difference doing it after 5 hours rather than 24)

5.) watch will then ask to log into iCloud - I pressed cancel for this...... what really does the iwatch need from the cloud?

messages come through, activity is still tracked, Facebook comes through etc etc

the iCloud is definitely the issue - believe it to be shortcuts so if someone wants to link back to cloud ensure shortcuts are turned off on cloud storage - this may work but I’m happy with how far I’ve got and a working watch with 3.7 gb capacity still available

if anyone has any questions about specific things being accessed I can try on my watch beforehand if you’d like

you’re welcome 😇

Before upgrading to Watch OS 7, my storage was too full to perform the upgrade. I was able to install Watch OS 7 after factory resetting the watch. I have 2 apps installed and my watch currently shows 2.6 GB free. It also shows 38 photos even though my watch setting is set to 25 most recent photos... My total capacity shows 4.2 GB.

Out of curiosity, does anyone else have a problem with their spouse joining home in the Home App? Just wondering if the data corruption issue is also affecting anything else.

I managed to get my watch to upgrade to WatchOS7 the other day, but my watch has not fared well with it. Constant “Storage Full” messages, to the point I’m literally resetting & re-pairing two or more times per day. Plus I think my battery life is greatly diminished as well. Half my watch’s power is gone before noon.

I did order a Series 6 watch, should receive it sometime next month. Hoping the upgrade will fix all these issues as I’m beyond frustrated as well 🤦‍♀️😳

I know the cellular has 16 GB of storage instead of 8. I wonder if it affects all Apple Watch models, but the higher storage allows for a slower purge of older files. Has anyone heard from apple about a fix? My last phone call 3 months ago they said it was their number one priority bug fix, but they weren’t sure which OS update would offer the fix.

I don’t believe it is entirely down to reminders..... I’ve deleted the whole reminders app and still persist to have the problem.

seems to be something further..... dragging information from the cloud for something else, either that or shortcuts maybe?

as said previously, my friends iwatch (series 3 sim version) which has more available storage had nothing on there, 0 apps etc and still used 4gb of capacity..... which seems to be our full capacity.....I’m sure these iWatch’s are meant to have 8gb capacity??

also worth noting, I sent my watch out and there was no issue for Apple, it’s a fault when connecting to iCloud. Wonder if disconnecting from iCloud on phone would still allow you to link to watch?
