Norton Lifelock and High Sierra

I installed Norton Lifelock On my iMac which has created performance problems including frequent shutdowns requiring restarts. I am running High Sierra. IMac is 6 years old but otherwise works great. I have uninstalled and then reinstalled Norton 3 times with the same poor result. Did I make a mistake with Norton? Is there something else on the iMac likely interfering with Norton?

iMac 21.5", macOS 10.13

Apple has multiple levels of built-in security in the operating system that are compromised by adding third-party anti-virus, and other total control software whose only claim to fame is operating system, and application disruption.
