On my iPhone it says that 68GB is used but when i try to make a backup on my mac it only takes up 18GB. Why is that?

Keeping in mind that:

  • apps are never backed up using any backup method
  • photos and videos (if you're using iCloud Photos) aren't backed up to your computer using iTunes or Finder
  • if you're syncing other stuff to iCloud (contacts, calendars, reminders, notes, messages, and so on) those things aren't backed up to your computer using iTunes or Finder

yes, it can happen
