iPhone 6 compatibility with MacBook Air

Folks, I have iPhone 6 with iOS 13.4.1 and MacBook Air with Catalina OS 10.15.4. Every time I try connecting my phone to USB of MacBook Air.. it does not recognise it.. dont know what to do.. All the patches etc are already patched and no update to be done on both Mac book air or iPhone 6.. Pls advise what I m missing.. This is causing a lot of issues for me.. Pls advise..
