iPad approve on device stopped working

I have configured family sharing on my child's iPad. When purchasing/installing from the app store I get the "Ask Permission" prompt, but when I click "Ask" nothing happens. It used to give another prompt asking me to approve on the device but this no longer happens.


I do not have another Apple device. Will I get the prompts if e.g. I install iTunes on Windows? Or login to icloud.com from a browser?

This feature started working again a week or so ago, after the last software update. Hopefully it won't break again.


For anyone interested (likely others with only one Apple device) when making a purchase on a child's iPad, after selecting "Ask" at the "Ask permission" prompt, the following message should appear at the top of the screen:


"Your request was sent and is awaiting approval from a parent. They can also approve in person on this device."


The words "approve in person" are a link that then prompts for the parent's ID and password. This seems to only work for purchasing apps in the store, and you have to be on the app page. It doesn't work if you try to install an app from the author's page (the page that shows all of their apps). It also didn't work for in-app purchases, last time I tried it.
