Text input on iPhone keyboard starts with a lowercase every time.

For some reason, whenever I open a text message, compose a new email, or any text input the default iPhone keyboard starts with a lower case keyboard. I constantly have to hit the "shift" button to start my sentence with a capital. I have tried resetting the dictionary and keyboard to default settings.

Is this a bug?

Hello Toby Tucker,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It's my understanding the first letter isn't automatically capitalized when entering text on your iPhone. You've come to the right place! I'm happy to help.

Check your keyboard settings and make sure that Auto-Capitalization has been enabled.

Toby Tucker,

Thanks for trying the recommended steps and following up. If you haven't already, restart your iPhone. Restarting can resolve many unexpected behaviors.

Restart your iPhone

If the issue persists, reinstall iOS with iTunes. This step can resolve possible software issues. When reinstalling iOS, iTunes will completely remove your current software and install a fresh version. Make sure you have a recent backup before trying this step.
