Random edit insertions make typing impossible!

1. When editing, if I move the cursor to insert a word, the iPad automatically makes it uppercase. Really annoying and time consuming to correct this!
2. My iPad inserts periods and capital letters in my text. This seems to happen after a longer session of ongoing typing. It becomes impossible to type and revise constantly.

Please help! I saw similar questions by others that were not answered. Surely, others are having a similar problem. What can I do? Thank you.
