Stop iPhone 11 Pro Unlocking and opening when I pick it up

Everytime I get a notification and pick up my phone to look at it, it unlocks and opens to the home screen automatically. It's so incredibly annoying when I just want to read the notification as the second I pick it up it's gone. I then have to ether lock the phone again to see the notification or swipe down.

What I've been doing is just covering the camera to look at it.

Or waiting for a little while until the back light turns off, then I can pick it up, the phone unlocks, but does not open, allowing me to read the notification.

I'm fine with it unlocking when I pick it up, just not opening too.

Have you tried to turn off Raise to Wake in Settings>Display & Brightness?

When done, restart your iphone and test it for a while.

Click here --> Use Raise to Wake on your iPhone - Apple Support

To turn Raise to Wake on or off, go to Settings > Display & Brightness.

This also drives me crazy.

For those that think this is a Raise to Wake problem, it's not. Raise to Wake turns on the display when you pick up the phone. However, the original poster and I have the problem where the device unlocks and opens automatically, specifically when we're trying to read the notifications on the home screen.

Again, it's not Raise to Wake. If anything the option would be called Prevent Unlock Without Swipe Up or similar.

I think you've misread my post.

I like this feature, I don't want to turn it off.

My issue is that when I get a notification and pick up my phone, I cannot see the notification as it unlocks and opens the phone to the home screen.

If I wait a while after i have received the notification I can pick the phone up and it'll unlock and show the notifications. But if I do it when i have just recieved the notification, it unlocks to the home screen.
