CarPlay Not Working - Head Unit Thinks iPhone 11 Is an iPod

I just got an iPhone 11 but when I try to use CarPlay by plugging it into the USB port, the head unit (a Pioneer AVH-4200NEX) thinks it's an iPod. The phone & head unit firmware are up to date, the head unit settings are correct, and I have tried multiple USB cables including an Apple cable. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
