Activation Lock

All of a sudden, when I switched my iPad on, I got a screen sayin "Activation Lock". I had to enter my Apple ID and Password but the ones I had didn't work. So, I went on line (pc) and successfully generated a new Apple ID and Password. These work fine for the pc now but still incorrect for the iPad! Any ideas anyone? One clue - the iPad says I need to use the data that were used to set up this iPad m.....@yahoo.com but I have no idea what that is nor the original (?) Password. Hence creating new ones.

Attempting to change your AppleID for a new account is a bad idea - on many levels. Your AppleID is an account to which all your App, service and media purchases from Apple are indelibly linked. If you switch to a different AppleID account, you’ll lose access to all purchases - and will, eventually, have to replace all Apps that are not part of the standard iOS/iPadOS distribution. Be prepared for pain...

If your device is Activation Locked, this help page will provide most of the information that you’ll need:

If you have forgotten your AppleID or associated password, these can be recovered here:

https://iforgot.apple.com

To recover your credentials, you’ll need access to one of the following:

  • Your primary email address mailbox that corresponds with your AppleID
  • Any of the secondary/recovery email addresses that should be configured for your AppleID account
  • Any of the trusted telephone numbers (fixed line or Cellular/Mobile) that are associated with your AppleID

Unless you AppleID account has not been fully/correctly configured, or has been seriously neglected, recovery of the AppleID and password should not be difficult.
