iPhone 7 & Smart Battery case charging issues

I have an iPhone 7 with the smart battery case that I am having some issues with.

First at the end of the day I will usually have 0% case battery life and like 40% phone life. I will leave the phone plugged into the case plug the case in to a charger. Nearly 10 hours later when I wake up the phone is at 100% and the case like 73%. I feel they should both be at 100%/100%.

The second issue is that the phone will have the lightning bolt "charging" indicator on the battery icon all day but the phone battery will diminish and the case will hardly go down in %. If I look at the battery usage screen it does not indicate that the phone has been charging all day, just that the battery charge level has gone down...

Are both these normal or is there an issue?
