2017 macbook pro with dell u2713HM

I am trying to connect my macbook to a dell monitor but it doesnt seem to be working. the keyboard attached to the monitor works with my mac along with the mouse, but I'm not getting any displays and it just says "power save mode" I have it connected to a VGA which is connected to a lightening which is connected to USB-C, but no improvement. I currently have a 13 inch 2017 macbook pro that uses macOS Catalina. The monitor is a dell U2713HM from 2013. Is it possible to connect them together, or should I just find another monitor. Please help!!
