facetime not working

so for the past few days, anytime i facetime a friend it says poor connection the entire time on my screen, but the person on the other end of the call can see me perfectly, i can hear them perfectly but i can’t see them. i have tried turning the app on and off, updating my software, and restarting my phone. it ends the call after a few minutes due to the “poor connection” but it’s like facetime is working fine but i can’t see the other person. only the “poor connection” screen.
