iCloud windows don't have option for "download photos"

Hi,

I'm in a situation where i have to delete all my

photos in my library (for security purposes) and I want to store it somewhere so that i dont lose my photos and have the dates all messed up.

I'm trying to store all my photos from iPhone to my PC through iCloud windows. I have successfully managed to view them in my iClouds folder in file explorer.

However, there is still the cloud icon beside every picture and i want it to be the green tick which means it can be stored offline.

My iCloud menu only has the option to upload photos instead of having both "download" and "upload" even though it stated "Updated Just Now".

Would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks!

I have resolved the same issue today with the help of Apple Support, and it's really straight forward:

Delete the iCloud app downloaded from the Microsoft Store
Download and install the one from Apple on this link - download iCloud for Windows on Apple's website

THAT'S IT!

The one on the Microsoft store does not give you the options, but the one from Apple does.

That is a great point. You often see systems with a 125 or 250Gb SSD as the applications and OS drive and a 1Tb data drive. So removing the ability to point where iPhotos should be stored makes no sense whatsoever.

It worked for me too. I just set up a new Dell XPS and had this "old downloads" folder. This process did not fill the gap, but it's working going forward. Maybe it will sync over time. Really stupid, right? Thanks.

Thanks!! After 2 frustrating days of not being able to download all my photos I came across your answer and boom!!! The issue was that there were only 2 photo options in the Windows version and the whole lot in the Apple version. Massive help thanks

Apple continue frustrating me every single day. Is there any logical explanation why this feature is removed from Windows version? The best option is to get rid of Apple products completely.

I too don't understand the purpose in crippling this app. It is practically the norm to have a storage drive separate from the main OS drive, why make it impossible to set the download location???

I run into the same issue. I'm kind of lucky that i still have the old icloud installer. So I reverted back to the old icloud version which fixed the problem for me.
