verizon.net email control

on our new iphone 11s we installed our verizon.net email account on both. When we delete and email on one iphone It deletes automatically on the other iphone. It does not do it from our ipad that has the same account installed. How can we stop it from happening on our iphones?

If your Verizon email service is IMAP-based, then that is how emails are handled. Unlike POP3 accounts, IMAP accounts have their messages stored on the provider's email servers to allow access from multiple devices with the same account. However, if one of those devices deletes a message, it is deleted off those servers and will not longer be available to any other client accessing the account going forward.

By default, the mail folders on your iOS device mirrors the same mailboxes on the server. Mail is not typically stored locally on the device.

Many email providers have switched from POP3 to IMAP awhile ago, but there are some, possibly Verizon, that still offer both account types. In such a case, you just need to change the email account information to use the proper IMAP servers. You just need to enter your email address and this Apple Support article will tell the proper email server settings to use.
