System update indicator stuck on
Since upgrading to Catalina a few days ago, the system update indicator (both in system prefs pane and apple menu) shows that an update is available, but there is not. Video here: https://d.pr/i/HCbIac

I am having the exact same issue. I called Apple Support and they could not figure it out... how do you find the file you are mentioning? ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.preferences.softwareupdate.plist
Delete this file then restart.
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.preferences.softwareupdate.plist
Et Voila! Thanks so much.
You're welcome.
While in the Finder, press "command shift G", paste the path into the window that opens and press Return. It will highlight the file for deletion.
Awesome, that worked! Thank you. That was driving me nuts. Crazy that Apple Support was not able to tell me this... they wanted me to totally reinstall the OS or wait for the next update.
You're welcome.
