How do I stop my FCP Library from renaming itself?

I'm new to FCP X. Every time I open my Library the name of the library changes in FCP X. ie it adds dates and timestamps to the name. I didn't catch this for a couple of days and now have 5 different names for

the same project. Even when I change the name back to what I want it to

be, it still creates another library folder. Shouldn't FCP just open and keep the same name? I can't find anything in the preferences that would help.

Questions; Why does the name change? How do I stop this from happening? Is this supposed to happen? Can I delete all the older Libraries and just keep the latest version without screwing

up the project? Is FCP supposed to create so many Libraries per session?

File "Can't be Found" prompts after Ventura 13.1 Since updating to Ventura 13.1, at random times, when I double-click on a file to open it, I get a prompt that the file can't be found. If I click OK then double-click the file again, it opens as it should. It happens randomly to files of all types. If your media and cache and other files are on the external drive, and you have space on the system drive, then leave the library on the system drive. How big is it? Can you post a screenshot that shows the working library on your system?

Yes all my Media and cache are on the external drive. The Library at this point is only 52mb. I can always leave it there and just move it to the external after the project or I move it now. One way or another it'll have to go to the external drive at some point as a **. After the project can I just copy it over the external, or is there some hoops I have to jump through? Can I delete all the other Libraries that were created up to today and just keep the new one that I conveniently renamed Wedding_X_2?

Hi Tom-

It looks like the Library and the **'s are going to the same location. Not sure how that happened. Tell me if I'm right; I'll keep the **'s going to the MOVIES directory and then make a new Library Location(as per Al's instructions) on my external drive. Wouls that be the way to go at this point? Also, should I trash my FCP preferences first, then change the settings back once I create a new Library?

I'd like to delete everything if that's not going to screw up my project. I'm at a place where I like the edit and about to go on to a new section of the wedding. It's a good point to start fresh as long as I don't lose any information with the new Library. Is it safe to do so?

Copy. I closed out of the old library and now working in my new library and all seems to be grand. No missing media so it knows where it is. I copied it over and didn't move it over. If it continues to act accordingly, I'll delete all the old Libraries.

Looks like FCP made another Library Folder nested under the original. I changed nothing from yesterday. Is this correct? I thought it would just continue backing up under the original folder.

Copy that. I'll let you know it works out. Once I create this new Library, can I then delete all the other ones so I essentially start from scratch?

I created a new Library called Wedding_X_Library. Can I just drag all the content from the old Wedding X 2 Library to the new one in FCP?

When you Modify the Storage Locations, the existing media, backups etc. remain where they are.

It will be any newly added items that go to the new Modified Storage Locations.

The First thing one does when jumping on to the FCP X learning curve us to unlearn/forget the FCPro 7 legacy methods.

HA! It's been a learning process fershure. Between you guys and Youtube I now have an abundance of new FCP knowledge. This is only the second time I've used FCP X(I stuck with 7 a long time), the first was a short project that I didn't pay too much attention to the where and the why. I knew this project would be more involved and when I saw that things were not looking correct and couldn't find the specific answers, I sought the professionals. You guys done goood! Thanx again for all your patience.

With the application closed move the library to the new location.

You don’t have to trash preferences. Application preferences don’t impact library properties. Make sure those are set correctly.
