ICloud Backup and Video files

I took an 8 minute video on my iphone and cannot copy it to my pc (I suppose due to file size)

So I purchased extra icloud space hoping it would sync with the icloud account and I could download it.

Even though photos is set to sync, they have not synced since I upgraded the space from the 5GB free to 200GB .... does anyone know how long it takes for sync to start working again.

I have turned the phone off and back on hoping that would get it syncing but no luck.

Thanks

Sharon

iCloud is syncing large files only when on Wi-Fi and charging. Leave the phone charging overnight with good Wi-Fi connection and without low power mode.

Regarding the issue, any chance that you have Win 10 and device disconnected error? If yes, try changing to Keep Originals at the bottom of Settings > Photos and check again. Any luck?

Make sure that the 200GB that you bought is applied to your Apple ID that is in use.

  1. Open Settings ➔ Apple ID (Your Name at Top) ➔ iCloud and Then toggle Photos OFF and back ON. Do the same with Contacts, Calendars, Messages etc.. Scroll down on the same screen and tap on iCloud Backup and toggle that OFF and back ON again.See if that starts the iCloud backup and syncing process.
  2. If the above does not work then Sign out of your Apple ID and then sign back in again. Note that this will remove all your cards stored in Wallet for Apple Pay. You will need to add them back in again once you sign back in. You will also need to enter some apps' passwords back again when sign back in.

So .... An excellent apple support technician called me this morning and explained everything!

Firstly you can copy over large files but on windows 10 you need to use the photos app and click import.

BEFORE you do this you should switch off icloud as it can cause the photos app to crash or not load properly to show you your files.

This is the perfect solution to my issue above.

When I turned off icloud photos and then used the windows 10 photos app and clicked import on the top right all my video files including the large ones on my iphone were visible and could be copied. They were still no visible when I accessed the phone and then the DCIM folder as I would have done before using windows explorer but apparently the correct way is to use the photos app as this is what is supported.

So a Massive THANK YOU to Shane from Ireland at apple tech support who is patient, knowledgeable and incredibly nice ... I'm really impressed!

Hi Franz,

so apparently all my photos on my iphone are large files and only sync when the phone is plugged in .... I only saw your message this morning and left the phone plugged in and on wifi for 30 mins and the icloud photos started syncing again.

Why apple couldn't tell me this yesterday is beyond me. I spent 2 hours on a webchat to apple support. This should have been the first thing they told me .... what an absolute waste of my time!

Thanks for your helpful reply, I really appreciate it.
