Text tone keeps shutting off

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. I understand the notification sound for an incoming message keeps turning off on its own. I’ll be happy to help with this.

So just to be sure, when this happens, if you go to Settings > Notifications > Messages, has Sounds changed to None? If this is happening, I would force close Settings and Messages then restart:

Restart your iPhone

Check for any updates to iOS as well:

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If the issue continues after that, try changing the Alert Tone to a different sound in Settings > Notifications > Messages > Sounds. See if this helps.

If tone is set to go off but the sound just isn’t playing when you get a message, make sure the Ring/Silent switch is set to Ring. Also, check that your iPhone volume is turned up as well. This link has more info:

If the issue continues after this, let me know if this affects other sounds as well and if this happens with all messages or just some.
