Can I use an HDMI-to-USB-C adapter to connect to my 2017 5k Retina iMac to play my Xbox One on?

Yeah I saw those but I don't have a mini-display or a lightning bolt. Just USB-C.
I found this - so now I know I can't use my Retina as a target display: https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/use-an-imac-as-a-display-mh30822/mac
What I stupidly forgot was that I also have a Thunderbolt Display... so maybe I can use an HDMI-to-Thunderbolt to make this work...
Personally I don't think it is ever going to work as as iMacs are computers and are NOT external displays for other devices. Many people have come before you and for some reason think that just because an iMac looks like a display it should be an external display for another device, they are not they are computers!
I found these however I cannot vouch that if either works https://itstillworks.com/connect-xbox-imac-10055303.html and also https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/348785/connect-xbox-to-imac
Yeah I get it - I was trying to be efficient, but looks like I'll have to settle for wall-mounting a display instead.
