Apps turn off when screen locked

Since updating to the latest update on Catalina, and maybe the one before that, I find that if I lock my screen to comeback later. After I log back in, everything is turned off. Then my log in items comeback on. Anything else I may have been working on is still closed. Anything I was reading on my browser is no longer there, only the startup page I use as my default.

I used to be able to walk away, comeback later and continue where I left off.

Is there away to set my Imac so that can happen again?

since updating

I found my own answer.

Apparently there has been a problem with the newest update OS 10.15. Where the user is logged out when the computer is put to sleep.

The way to fix it is to go to System Preferences, click Security & Privacy, then click Advanced. Log in as a system administrator, then unclick "Log out after ... minutes of inactivity".

Hi L. Friedman,

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today. As I understand, when you lock your screen and return later, the apps and web pages you had open are missing.

Are you locking the Mac from the Apple drop down menu?

Does the same thing happen when you put the Mac to sleep?

Does this happen if you boot into safe mode? How to use safe mode on your Mac

Does this happen in a new user account too? How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

Let me know further details.

Have a fantastic day!

But what I did do is go into recovery mode and checked the status of the disc from first aide. ( no problems) Then I replaced the operating system while in recovery mode.
