iPhone randomly starts playing a song

Hi,

I have an iPhone 8 on iOS 13.4.1. Since yesterday, the song UBR by Nas starts playing on my iPhone around every half hour or so on Apple music. It does so with headphones on or no; while listening to podcasts or using the RelaxMelodies app, and while listening to music on my HomePod. It’s extremely irritating.

It is always the same song. Weirdly enough, it is not in my library.

I have already deleted and reinstalled the Music app, factory reset my iPhone and restored it from an iCloud backup, and disabled background refresh. Even if I force close the Music app, it keeps on happening!

it happened to me in the past, on an earlier version of iOS (it was the same song at that time for ... reasons) but the same phone.

it seems to have happened to a few people on these forums but I have not found a resolution. Anybody has any idea?

Hi there, lpsavoie!

Thanks for stopping by the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like every half hour or so, a song will start playing on your iPhone via Apple Music. I'm happy to help!

I see you've already done some troubleshooting, but the issue continues. Since the steps you've taken haven't solved the problem, I would suggest taking the following steps next:

  1. Check for, and install, any available iOS updates for your device: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support. This will also install any updates for the Music app.
  2. Create a current backup: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support. Then, restore your iPhone to factory settings: Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support, setting it up as a new device instead of restoring a backup (at least temporarily). Sign into iCloud, iTunes and App Store, etc, but don't reinstall any previously downloaded apps or other content. Watch the phone for an hour or so to see if the issue persists. Then, reinstall your backup: Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support and apps/content: , and test again.

If the issue stops when nothing is on the phone but begins after setting it up with your data, there is something on the phone (an app, a Shortcut, etc) that is causing the Music to play. If the issue continues without your data on the phone, I would reach out to Apple Support directly for additional assistance. You can do that here: Contact Apple Support.

Best.
