Apple Carplay volume issues on Sync 3.

After the recent (past few days) I started having issues with the volume adjustment on my Ford Sync 3 system while using Apple Car play. On bluetooth I can adjust the volume of my music or call with no issues. As soon as I plug in the cable and it kicks over to Apple Car play I lose the ability to adjust the volume up or down. Instead, the "prompt" volume is being adjusted. Has anyone found a fix? Is this is a known bug with Apple IOS?

I dont know the software version of my Sync 3 but the last update was Jan 2020. Any help is appreciated.

The issue is the new update to Waze. The app now always runs in the background whenever you are plugged into carplay, regardless of if it is open of not. For now, until theres a patch for waze, just delete the app and this will go back to normal

I have a ford with sync as well, as soon as I deleted the waze app the issue disappeared.

Has the audio worked with CarPlay previously?

Have you tested with a new cable?

Do you receive any sort of error or message?

Cheers!

Hi have you had any luck figuring this out? I am having the same exact issue. Took to dealer and they couldn’t find a issue, everything was working and testing fine. I got back in my truck and just like that the issue still remained. Luckily I could show service advisor and he said it was a app presumably Waze that was causing the issue. Closed the app and we were back in bizz...was working fine. Now it’s the next day and it’s doing it again and I have no apps running in background have restarted phone and still now working. Very frustrating.

Down below the solution was presented. It's the waze app. I was having the same issue and other then turning off apple play for my phone and listening thru bluetooth (which also works) I deleted the waze app from the phone and poof, I could adjust the audio volume again. I had stopped using waze a while back anyway so no big loss.
