Microphone quality MacBook pro

Last year I bought a new Mac Book pro (the version before the 16" screens). The quality of the microphone is very poor. During a conference call I can't use my keyboard unless I mute myself cause everyone will hear me tapping away on the keyboard. My voice also sounds a bit different and the microphone picks up all kind of sounds that my laptop makes, so when I receive an e-mail during a call everyone can hear the 'ding' sound. Is this normal for the build in microphone of the MacBook Pro? Or should I let someone look into his?
