Can I configure Apple Music on JBL Link Portable and then play music without iPhone around?

Hi,

I want to buy JBL Link Portable (https://www.jbl.com/bluetooth-speakers/LINK+PORTABLE.html) and I wam wondering if it is possible that I will configure Apple Music on it with help of my iPhone (app like Apple or Google Home?) but then I will not need my iPhone around to play music from Apple Music?

Will it allow me to say "Hi Google, play Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody" and it will just play it? Even if my iphone is turned off?

Thanks,

Mat!

Hello there eMCe71,

Thanks so much for using Apple Support Communities!

I understand that you are inquiring about using your JBL speaker with an Apple device. I am more than happy to give you some insight.

Most third party speakers are compatible with Apple devices. With this being said, however, you won't be able to use "Hey, Siri" with only the third party speaker. You would need to be near your Apple device. "Hey, Siri" would tell the device what to play and the audio would be redirected to your external speaker via bluetooth.

If you would like an external speaker that works with "Hey, Siri" without needing your device nearby check out the Apple HomePod here:

Here are also some articles relating to "Hey, Siri" that you can reference:

Use Siri on all your Apple devices

Use Siri to play music or podcasts

I hope this helps! Have a great day!
