My Imac Will not open Imovie

A mid 2011 iMac is shown in this Apple link to not be compatible with Mojave or later .

You will see that an iMac has to be 2012 or later to run Mojave and Catalina.

When upgrading an OS through the official Apple site it is usually not possible to install an OS that is not compatible with your Mac. Was your upgrade performed through the App Store?

You may therefore have issues with other applications on your Mac in addition to iMovie.

Good catch. I didn't notice the apparent incompatibility. I can only speculate that the poster must have an iMac Pro, not an iMac. The link you provided said that all model years of the iMac Pro could upgrade to Mojave. In this case, the poster has upgraded to Catalina, so his Mac, whatever it is, must be compatible with it. I think he/she probably needs a metal capable graphics card. Maybe the OP will post back and clear it up.

Your 2011 iMac proably has too old of a graphics card, that doesn't support metal. If that's the case, you would need to upgrade your graphics card if your computer specs allow it. To see if your card supports metal, go to Apple Logo>About This Mac>System Report>Hardware>Graphics Displays and see if your video card supports metal.

I only know the following as I have just Googled it.

The iMac Pro seems to have been introduced in 2017.

Also I have just noticed that the OP has included what appears to be his serial no'.

When this is input to Everymac.com it comes up with mid 2011 iMac.

Strange.
