skype not working on mac air

So I was on a video call today and Skype was working totally fine. I had to record some information on Skype so I was using QuickTime Player. After that, my computer (Mac Air) completely froze and the cursor wasn't moving. The audio was still apparent. So I had to shut down my laptop. Then, I tried again, and it happened again.

Therefore, I looked up some information and I tried deleting and reinstalling skype. It didnt work. Some told me to go in my Application Support folder and delete any Skype related files which I did and emptied the trash.

However, each time i tried installing skype before and after deleting skype related files, it would be stuck on the loading screen before being able to login. what do i do?

There are other files that should be removed. You may find some of these, delete them all along with the Skype application:

  • ~/Library/Application Support/Skype
  • ~/Library/Caches/com.skype.skype
  • ~/Library/Caches/skype.skype.Shiplt
  • ~/Library/Containers/com.skype.skype.shareagent
  • ~/Library/Cookies/com.skype.skype.binarycookies
  • ~/Library/Cookies/com.skype.skype.binarycookies_tmp_429_0.dat
  • ~/Library/Logs/Skype
  • ~/Library/Preferences/com.skype.skype

Empty the trash. Restart the computer. Then try to reinstall.

You can also try creating a new user and try running Skype from that user. If that works, that means there is some Skype file within your account that you missed. You can also delete all the above files along with the Skype application, empty the trash, and restart your computer in Safe Mode, which means hold the shift key while restarting, which may take some 10-20 minutes as it performs some checks and empties caches. Then restart normally and try installing Skype.
