SD card not working on Macbook pro

Hi all,

I have a early 2011 Macbook pro, tried my sons sd card and it doesn't work. It works on my son's mbp . We are both running High Sierra. I looked in the system report and the card reader shows in there just won't mount the sd card. As I said the card works on my son's MBP. Can anyone help with this please? TIA

When I read from or write to my card (Emtec microSDXC 64GB Class10 Speed 64GB) using an external 3rd party USB card reader, everything works fine. However, when I use the same card with my MacBooks internal card reader, it takes the OS minutes to mount the card, and then it can't read from it. Writing seems to work, albeit very slowly. I already tried: using different microSD to SD adapters formatting the card (low level also) formatting it with different file systems (ExFAT, HFS+, FAT), to no avail. SD card slot on iMac I upgraded to Monterery OS yesterday and shut down after installation. I re-opened the iMac this morning to discover that the SD card slot does not work. I also tried my husband's Apple USB C to SD card reader but that wouldn't work either. I checked various SD cards to make sure none were faulty and the result was still the same: no card opened. Any ideas how to solve this one please?

Why is my SD card reader is not showing up in Disk Utility? I am new to the MacBook world, with the MacBook Air with M1 chip. I've purchased the USB adapter from Apple. when I plug in the card & card reader to the MacBook it does not recognised it being there, so I cannot format the disk to be able to return it to my cars dash-cam. Can anyone offer any advice please?

Do you use a separate card reader or do you insert the SD card directly in the card slot of your MBP ?

If via a card reader, will putting it directly into the MBP slot work? If not try and clean the card slot from dust etc (carefully).

Have you already tried another SD card? does that work correctly or also not?
