how to configure Shared iPad with Profile Manager

Hi,

Apple recently updated their Shared iPad config for Apple Business Manager and was wondering has anyone had any luck with this?

I currently have the following devices which meet the requirements.

iPad Pro 9.7"

iPadOS 13.4.1

macOS Server 5.10

macOS Catalina 10.15.4

Profile Manager

When I log into Profile Manager > Devices > I found the device but do not see the following option "Configure as Shared iPad" as per screenshot below.

Any ideas on how to get this to appear within Profile Manager?

I have done the following:

Removed macOS Server app > Empty Bin

Unassigned iPad from Apple Business Manager

Removed device from Profile Manager

Assigned iPad in Apple Business Manager

iPad is now showing in Profile Manager

But, still no option for "Configure as Shared iPad".

Appreciate any help.

I would also suggest looking into a true MDM long term. Apple doesn't even use Profile Manager to manage devices.

Ah yes. Forgot to mention this. Yes, iPad is supervised and DEP.

I don't use Profile Manager, so shooting a little in the dark here. Is it updated to the latest version?

Yes, latest version of macOS server app and macOS.

Couldn't see no option to do so. I have logged it with Apple Enterprise, asI believe its something to do with the macOS Server config, but who knows...will update the thread when I know more..

Yep. Apple uses Jamf. Profile Manager is more of a training/testing platform as well as a proof of concept.

Apple advised Shared iPad Configuration is supported with Business Manager but macOS Server needs an update for this to happen. No ETA as to when the update will be released.

I had a feeling that Apple would use Jamf for their MDM solution. Shame that they don't progress with Profile Manager. Jamf is costly and to be fair pretty much all MDM solutions are but with macOS Server app was only £20 if I remember correctly which manages all my devices.

If you want something similar to Jamf but a lower cost, check into Mosyle ($1/device/month) or Fleetsmith (first 10 devices free, then $8.25/device/month/device for each device after the 10). I've used both, and while I do prefer Mosyle over Fleetsmith, both are solid options.

Are you sure they don’t? As I’ve been using Profile Manager since 2014 and working very well for my macOS, iOS and iPadOS.
