Webcam Quality on MacBook Air 2020 Compared to 2017

I have recently purchased a MacBook Air 2020. I use a MacBook Air 2017 at work. I am surprised at how much worse the webcam quality is on the 2020 model. I have read that Air webcams are generally not good, but want to check that this is not a fault. The picture is darker and more grainy. Is this just how they are or is it likely to be a fault?
