Can't open the Security & Privacy Preference Pane in Catalina

I can't open the Security & Privacy preference pane. When I go into System Preferences and clikc on Security & Privacy nothing happens and eventually the System Preferences app stops responding and I have to force quit it. All the other panes within System Preferences open and function without any issues. I've restarted the computer several times but it hasn't helped. I first noticed the issue because I was having problems with my VPN and wanted to check my security settings.

I'm on a 2015 MacBook pro running Catalina (10.15.4) - any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hello SJ_07.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. I understand that you’re unable to open Security & Privacy in System Preferences. You noticed this when you started having issues with your VPN. I’m happy to help.

Are you able to open Security & Privacy if you turn off VPN?
