Iwatch screen cracked from inside

Hi, my husband’s Iwatch screen is cracked from the inside from the left to right side. The top of the screen is fine, running your nail/finger over it there’s no feel-able crack or scratch. The touchscreen is now unusable though, scrolling and selecting applications does not work. (It is a series 2 aluminum)

Would the “Screen Replacement Program for Aluminum Models of Apple Watch Series 2 and Series 3“ cover this? Or had anyone heard of this happing with the screen appearing to be cracked from the inside?
