【Mac photo replaced by iphone when usb linked】HELP!!

The Mac has never been connected to the iphone before. I used USB to connect the iphone and Mac together. I found that the local photos of the Mac were instantly covered by the photos from the iphone. As a result, all the original/local photos of Mac disappeared.

And I tried option + photo found out only with one album library, and there was nothing from recently deleted.

Is this related to Mac's capability? How can I find the previous photos of this Mac? ? ! !

Hey ritasloane,

I see that you're missing photos on the Mac after connecting the iPhone.

This resource can also help: Get help with missing photos - Apple Support. Also see if there is a different photo library that contains those missing pictures. You can do this by pressing and holding the Option key while you open Photos. Is there another library that you can select?

Keep us updated!

Thank you Jameson, I tried to hold Option key and open Photos, unfortunately there is only one photo gallery.

What I want to know is: when I connect the iPhone and the Mac via itunes, I want to back up the iPhone to the Mac, and if the photos on the mac also open iCloud, is it completely replaced by the iPhone to be the same? What I mean is that the Mac and the iPhone are completely consistent, not the data from the two libraries is merged.

There is another possibility. I remember that a dialog box might pop up at that time, asking me to choose whether to ‘replace’. I may have subconsciously clicked on the replacement, so I will not be able to find it after being completely covered?

I have also tried a lot of software to retrieve the missing photo from the Mac, but in my opinion, the 'lost' and 'overwritten' are different. The operation of Apple Backup is really elusive, even a bit anti-intellectual.

Do you encounter such a situation?

Is it related to my Mac internal memory of only 128g?

Hey, Jameson, thanks for your support!

Unfortunately, before the photos were lost, I did not use the time machine to back up the mac on another mobile hard disk. Do you recommend that everyone buy a mobile hard disk to back up Mac?

I want to know what happens if you choose this option? ->

Will the photos be lost because: to synchronize and synchronize, (and sacrifice the local photo library of Mac).

Not merge, but unite.

Do you think this will be the case? Mac and iPhone were originally independent, and the option of photos may be selected in iCloud before connecting, so when they connect, the Mac will synchronize by default, and because the memory is not enough, the Mac's photo library is turned into A photo library for mobile phones.(totally same)

Cheers,

Hey ritasloane,

Thanks for reaching back out. When you back up the iPhone to iTunes, you're creating a file that contains the backup data so current data, like photos on the Mac, shouldn't be removed or replaced by performing this action. Here's the steps to create a backup using iTunes: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

However, photos on the Mac can be replaced or removed if you use iCloud Photos on multiple devices and these photos were deleted from another device: Set up and use iCloud Photos - Apple Support. Could this have been what happened?

Restoring selected items using Time Machine may also be an option, if you have a backup: Use Time Machine to restore deleted files or older files - Apple Support

Cheers.

Hey ritasloane,

Thanks for the screenshot! If you choose the option highlighted in the red box, this will create a backup file of the contents on the iPhone. This doesn't replace or remove any data on the Mac, nor does it sync any of the iPhone data to the Mac or vice versa. This option just creates a file of the backup contents of the iPhone and stores it on the Mac.

If you choose instead the first option in the screenshot which is "Back up your most important data on your iPhone to iCloud" it would store the backup contents in iCloud, instead of on the Mac. You can use this resource to locate these backup files that are created: Locate backups of your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support. Using either of the two options in the screenshot you provided will not alter the contents, or photos, on the Mac.

While I just explained backing up, there is also syncing options in Finder. Syncing is different from backing up, and it's explained here: About syncing your Mac and your devices - Apple Support. This can change content, like photos, across the devices.

Having a Time Machine backup is recommended. However, there are some other options you can take to back up the Mac: Other ways to back up and restore files - Apple Support.

I hope this clears it up for you!
